Marie: New Year, New Skills, New Jobs!

The beginning of the year kicked off for me by gaining my diploma in threading!

Sunday 15th January saw me at the beautiful Clearwell in Gloucestershire where I did a hair & make-up trial for Jemma Page. It was a very relaxed trial, where I met her lovely fiancee, her Mum and Mum-in-law. She went for a half up half down with tumbling waves where she can have her tiara nestled in. For make-up we went very natural but with a real dewy glow and a glossy pink lip, very Spring!!

Saturday 28th January was the day of Rachel Underwood’s wedding in the GORGEOUS Estate of Coombe Lodge in Blagdon.

This is a venue I have worked at before, and it was a joy to make over the bride in this beautiful venue. Rachel was very calm and poised throughout the morning whilst I made her up which was great.

Her flower girl looked lovely too and was all ready to strut down the isle with the Bride!!!

Stephanie: Returning from Maternity Leave……

I was so excited to come back to work after 4 months Maternity Leave.  Maximo and I :)

I have eased back into my role slowly with one wedding. Getting Anna and her beautiful Bridesmaids ready on the 7th January at the Epsom Racecourse Holiday Inn, Anna looked absolutely stunning and I can’t wait to see the pictures.

I then had trials with five beautiful brides for this year. It was lovely to try new ideas to help Liz, Lauren, Becky, Louise and Beverley find a perfect look to compliment their dress and theme for their wedding days.

And finally I also had a chance to catch up with some of my preferred suppliers at the Ghyll Manor Wedding Fair on 29th January.

Simon Hooley very kindly sent me a picture of a bridesmaid whose hair and makeup I did last year.

Rachel and Nicky’s day of fun!!!

Rachel our new trainee had her shopping day with me in Central London.
We hit the shops in the rain and had lots of fun at Estée Lauder, YSL, Bobbi Brown, NARS, MAC, Pixi Beauty makeup stores!

After we’d finished we had lovely collection of goodies which we packed in to clear bags ready for her first day with our trainer Laura Jane www.laurajanesessions.co.uk

Good luck Rachel!!! Can’t wait to see you final images and hope you have a good few weeks learning the tip and tricks of the trade.

Louise revealing every girls must have…

January has been a busy month with enquiry’s and trials.

A product I have been using on not only myself but all my brides when I’m prepping the Skin is Elizabeth Arden’s 8 Hour Cream

In this cold weather we often find our lips get sore and chaps so I have found that every girls make up must is:

It restores, calms and rejuvenates any area on your body that is dry, sore or cracked and can also be used on minor skin irritations.

Nicky: Out with the old, in with the new!

New Year: Time for new portfolio photos!

Five Beauty Call artists took over the Beauty Call Studio with our resident photographer David Price to produce new looks for their books.

Beauty Call's Studio

As you can imagine it was pretty frenzied and David kept his cool amongst a room of girls so that was a miracle in itself. The makeup artists all bought their own model and could do whatever they wanted so we had a real variety of looks!

Here’s a little taster from: Jenny - http://www.beautycall.co.uk/artistinfo.php?id=84, Louise - http://www.beautycall.co.uk/artistinfo.php?id=123 and Becky - http://www.beautycall.co.uk/artistinfo.php?id=136

Even Evie, my daughter got involved!

Sarah: As we move into 2012…………What does it have in store for me??

How can I begin to talk about what I have up my sleeve for 2012 without a mention of my fabulous last two months of 2011.

A brilliant shoot with James Burton who is not only charming but a great up and coming creative photographer. The results of great team work were published images in Elite!

Next came, my joining the Beauty Call team and a really warm welcome from Nicky, Phil and the other girls I’ve spoken to so far…hopefully I’ll get to meet you all soon :)

2012 has set off at a fast pace with bridal inquiries and bookings already and it’s only 10 days until I start my special effects, airbrush and body painting course on the 30th Jan. I really can’t wait…..I’ll keep you posted :)

Winter Garden Wedding Fair by Becky

This weekend 7th and 8th January, I have attended and exhibited at the Winter Garden Wedding Fair in Eastbourne run by Ann and Phil at the “One stop wedding shop”. It was a very successful first wedding fair of 2012 as I managed to make some good links with several venues including Broyle Place, The York House Hotel, a chain of Lion Hotels and The Hilton in Eastbourne.

I also managed to have a conversation with Fross from Fross Wedding Collections, a bridal dress shop. We discussed holding a day at her shop where myself and the TN franchisee, Sarah could carry out a number of wedding trials. We decided to do this because it enables the brides to see their hair and makeup whilst wearing the dress so gives them a better idea of what they want.

Jenny’s Vintage Themed Wedding

When I met Vanessa at her trial I was excited that she had a vintage themed wedding!!  She loves that era and wanted to have hair and make up from the Hollywood Glamour era. We both had lots to talk about as we are both avid Strictly Come Dancing fans loving the hair and the make up especially. Vanessa also text me to see if I had seen Erin Boags beautiful hair style just before Christmas!

The stunning head band totally encrusted with diamante in a leaf design was made by Amanda Sutherland especially for the wedding.  The stunning silver beaded gown was by Sarah Arnett “Valerie” in platinum available from the Wedding Wardrobe (http://www.wedding-wardrobe.co.uk/) who are one of my recommended suppliers in Northampton.

On the morning of the wedding Vanessa was very nervous, although in the lead up to the wedding she had not been.  She started to feel more relaxed once I started the hair and make up.  When I had finished Vanessa was so excited.  The photographer Janis Andrejevs started doing head shots before Vanessa put on her stunning gown.

When she looked in the full length mirror, Vanessa announced that she felt a million dollars and I was so pleased that the whole look had come together for her.I am sure you will all agree she looked a million dollars!!!

A New Years Eve Wedding!

New Years Eve….. day time!

Heading over to the prestigious ‘Blakes Hotel’ in Kensington to makeover Charlene and her Bridesmaid. If you haven’t already seen the pictures of this hotel, it’s a must! Graced regularly by the wonderful Al Pachino and the late Amy Winehouse it is a favourite with the stars.

As the champagne flowed in this beautiful suite, the makeovers began.

For the Bridesmaid, a vintage 1920’s inspired hairstyle with water waves down the side of the hair falling in to a side bun. We went red carpet with a smokey eye with shimmery brown tones overlaid by a Bobby Brown black eye shadow to smoke the eyes out some more! This was complimented by a bronzed glow to Mo’s already enviously tanned face and a hint of baby pink on the cheeks and lips to match the colour of her dress.

For the bride we went more Grecian with two French plaits running down from the crown into a low bun full of curls and a swept side fringe that seemed to melt into the rest of the style perfectly. For the makeup I used hints of green and gold to emphasise the rather unusually fabulous yet unconventional Grecian dress. I used these colours to slightly blend out the liquid eyeliner in the outer corners but not so much that it took away from the sleek finish that the liquid line gives. I chose a nude colour on the lips – Laura Geller lip spackle to be precise! Mixed in with my favourite Lancôme Juicy Tube in a nude shimmer. To finish, lots of natural pink blush to define the cheeks and marry perfectly with the green tones in her makeup and the dress followed by a generous amount of Salon System individual lashes, Charlene looked nothing less than stunning.

After being introduced to Charlene’s mother over an emotional Skype conversation (Her family lives in South Africa) as the “person responsible for these amazing transformations” I knew my work was done!

Kim’s December…

December has been a great month……

Makeup and hair for Christmas party’s and some beautiful Winter weddings!

I had the pleasure of doing Charlotte’s hair and makeup for her wedding on the 29th December. It was a fun and relaxed morning getting Charlotte, bridesmaid and sister Jennifer, Mum Penny and youngest bridesmaid Emily ready.

The wedding was taking place at Portsmouth Cathedral and then in a number of marquees in Charlotte’s parents back garden. As the bridal party were getting ready we had to have a few sneaky peeks as the lorry delivered loads of flowers and teams of people set up the marquee!

Charlotte wore a stunning Caroline Castigliano Gown with a jeweled detailed silver sash. We went for soft relaxed curls using medium sized heated rollers and then pulled back the front with slight height and pinned into the hair band/tiara. Charlotte’s tiara and Mum Penny’s coat were custom made by David Western Couture in Southsea – who was highly recommended and even adjusted the tiara following our trial so it fitted perfectly into the hairstyle with Charlottes amazing cathedral veil.

Charlotte’s makeup was natural and glowing. I used Stila illuminating tinted moisturiser mixed with Estee Lauder foundation for a soft glow. A shimmery grey Bobbi Brown palette on the eyes with a touch of white in the inner corner of the eyes to make them pop. I then used Bobbi Brown graphite shimmer gel liner blended on the top and bottom of the eye as just like Kate Middleton, Charlotte loves her eyeliner! To finish the look I used Laura Mercier lip stain in shy pink.

The loveliest moments were when Charlottes Dad and Grandfather came upstairs for the big reveal! I’m definitely looking forward to seeing pictures of the rest of the day.

Photography was by Barrie Downie and flowers by a friend of the family.
