Wedding Hair and Make up Brighton

Wedding Hair and Make up Brighton – Becky

It’s been a busy Summer for me with lots of variety of jobs which is always nice!

I have been up at 2am ready to get a large Asian wedding party ready by 6am! Can’t say I enjoyed getting up at that time but all the ladies looked lovely!

I’ve been to the King of Dubai’s home with a team of Beauty Call ladies to make up their waitresses as geisha girls for his grandsons 14th birthday party! What an extravagant party that was!

Geisha makeup   Geisha make up

I have also been doing quite a lot of training for the Beauty Call Advanced Hair and Makeup courses which I am really enjoying! I did my PTLLS qualification at the beginning of the year which enables me to teach and give a qualification at the end of it.

At the end of the training course the student gets to do a shoot day with an amazing photographer, this time David Meyer at the Beauty Call Studio in Shoreditch. Nicky normally covers the shoot day however I had the pleasure of doing Vanessa’s with her.

The resulting pictures came out amazingly well and the day ran surprisingly smoothly! (it can get a bit hectic with so many creative minds involved!)

Here are her final pics:

I also had a photoshoot of my own, for the new brochure for The Grand in Brighton

Leonie Claire Bridal in Brighton supplied four amazing wedding dresses along with some gorgeous accessories!

Sarah Critchlow was our very talented and professional photographer and I was on hair and makeup!

The brief was vintage Hollywood glamour, The Grand being the ideal place for this type of shoot! We even managed to get out onto the balcony to capture the front of the hotel.

All in all I have loved my Summer and can’t wait for a mega busy Autumn!

Wedding Tattoo Cover Up – I do or I don’t?

Wedding Tattoo Cover Up – I do or I don’t?

When it comes to your wedding day, of course it goes without saying that every bride wants to look their best, calling on wedding for hair and makeup specialists at Beauty Call to help them achieve it.

So it’s not surprising that many brides consider whether to show or cover their tattoos. I think this comes into consideration for a number of reasons.  A tattoo is an expression of individuality and usually has a meaning for the “owner”.

Of course there are those tattoos that were done when very young and not considered in such favourable terms as one gets older!

Wedding tattoo cover up

I have been to several jobs this year who have asked me this exact question and my reply to them all is, don’t listen to outside influences, as those of us who have had their wedding day know there can be many opinions on things, but go with your gut and how you feel most comfortable.

I know some brides who have styled their bridal look around their tattoo and its given their look a quirky and unique feel!

Recent bride Clare who got married last month at Kent Life, Maidstone was having laser treatment on her tattoo so it was barely visible anyway.

Whereas Dee married at Knowle Country House in Sevenoaks decided she wanted hers on show.

For those brides like Emma, just married this weekend at Turkey Mill, Maidstone she just had one tattoo that she no longer liked so wanted that covering up, have no fear there are plenty of products your professional makeup artist should carry and be able to help you with.  A personal favourite of mine is Keromask. It does a fab job and if applied correctly will not transfer onto your dress.

So whatever you decided, there’s no wrong or right here ladies just make sure it’s your own personal choice!

Happy wedding day!

Bridal makeup Southport, Lancashire

ONCE UPON A TIME  ………. in the centre of Southport sat a beautiful bespoke Bridal Studio……
Bridal Studio and Bridal makeup Southport

I have connected with Sophie and Anna, the creators of Bridal Studio, over the last few months via emails and calls, with are love for weddings in the North West.

And they happily recommend Beauty Call to all their brides for bridal makeup Southport, so I thought I would visit there studio and see all the beautiful hand made wedding dresses, and get to know the sisters a bit better!

Bridal Studio Southport

They both have fashion backgrounds and started up together, but decided wedding dresses was the route to take. They do everything from bridesmaids dresses to mother of the bride/groom and even beautiful christening gowns.  Everything a bride and her party would need – their bridal studio is the North West’s Destination.

Bridal Studio Lancashire

Sophie and Anna are so sweet and you can tell that they will have as much passion in each and every creation, as the bride will have for her big day.

We had a lovely chat and decided to organise a bridal shoot for their new collection – watch this space!

I’m sure I will visit them again soon to see what they have in store for Spring /  Summer 2015 – if you are from around this way do make sure you go in.

I’m sure I will see them around at all the North West wedding fairs too.

I hope you are all having a lovely summer?

Wedding Hair and Makeup Didsbury, south Manchester – it has it all!

Wedding Hair and Makeup Didsbury

Well what a busy few months it has been, wedding season is in full swing and I have moved house in the middle of it all!

In-between unpacking boxes and furniture shopping I have managed to take a walk round my new village and check out the shops – not only is Didsbury, South Manchester home to some beautiful independent boutiques, bars and restaurants, it has a lot to offer the bride to be.

Read on…

To start off with Burton Road, West Didsbury is home to one of the most beautiful bridal boutiques in the North West:

The White Closet  is home to some famous designers such as Jenny Packham and Charlie Brear. Since opening their doors in 2009 they have gone from strength to strength, this twice award nominated boutique showcases some of the most amazing gowns. It is advised that you book appointments well in advance as they get very busy especially on Saturdays.

The White Closet Didsbury

After that, I would have a walk down Barlow Moor Road to The Didsbury Flower Lounge, they have a wealth of floristry experience and cover all areas of Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire and all over the country. They also have a range of items for you to hire for your big day including tall vases, tea lights candelabras and much more.

The Didsbury Flower Lounge

If after all that you fall in love with Didsbury as much as I have, take a look at The Didsbury House Hotel

You can get married here too! This chic luxury town house has 27 bedrooms perfect for a small yet personal wedding day.

The Didsbury House Hotel

Across the road is home to Fletcher Moss Gardens  which is a beautiful park with a rockery flower area that is maintained by volunteers. Would make some beautiful wedding pics!

And last but not least we are here! Myself and the Beauty Call team would love to make you look and feel beautiful for your big day or special occasion, whereever you choose to have it in the North West….

Yves Saint Laurent Lip Stain Review

A Yves Saint Laurent Lip Stain Review

Yves Saint Laurent Lip Stain Review

My North London brides are currently swearing by Yves Saint Laurent Lip Stain as it provides the right amount of colour and it lasts!

Rouge Pur Couture Vernis a Levres Glossy Stain combines the texture and glossiness with the long-wear of a stain for a truly amazing lip colour!

It can be worn any way you want – applied in layers from sheer to highly pigmented.

It has a lightweight texture that immediately melts onto lips, smells great and through the wear it becomes increasingly hydrating.

The applicator’s unique slanted tip and short soft bristles allow for flawless application with perfect precision.

Comes in 14 different shades! Absolutely fabulous!

Discovering quirky wedding venues in Darlington

This month I have had the pleasure of working at some really cool wedding venues in Darlington area – offering something a little different and allowing you the freedom to create a more bespoke wedding where you can put your own stamp on your wedding day!

I have had a few enquiries recently from brides getting married at Jersey Farm Hotel and I finally got to visit it for the first time last month……

I relied on my sat nav, like always, to get me there and the route was fine, I only started to panic when I was being directed up a narrow looking farm road, but after being reassured by a local farmer that I was on the right track I continued a little further until I saw the sign!

Jersey Farm is set in 12 acres of luscious farmland, making it a rural escape, just a mile from Barnard Castle. With farm animals in the fields, The Jersey Farm Country Hotel has a peaceful and calming charm.

I did the brides and her bridesmaids wedding hair and makeup in their spacious two floor accommodation. Whilst people were showering and getting dressed downstairs in the bedrooms, I was able to set up in the lounge area upstairs ready to do hair and makeup.

They have a choice of rooms for your ceremony so you can have your whole day and evening in the one place!

Another really great venue I visited just last week to do one of my brides hair and makeup trials, was Camp Katur. This is the perfect alternative wedding venue that will give you and your guests an unforgettable experience in a magical setting.  It is set within the 250 acre English Country Estate amidst woodland, greenland and meadowland where you will find an all in one Glamping & Camping village with unique accommodation options.

I would usually do the trial at the Brides home but as this venue offers a really unique, alternative setting, and my bride was embracing this 100%, this meant that her accommodation on the wedding night will be in the glamping village and without electricity. We will be getting her ready in a room next to the huge barn where you can have your evening reception and dress as you wish. We wanted to do the trial at the venue just to make sure it will be okay and all was fine!

With a woodland ceremony, a Glamping meadow with an array of unique accommodation for you and your guests and a rustic barn for your evening reception, what more could you ask for!

I can’t wait to return on my brides wedding day to see this venue again! The staff I met were all really friendly and it had a great vibe.

Enjoy your Summers!

So how are everyone’s New Years Resolutions going?
Almost completely forgotten about them?!?
See my earlier blog at the start of 2014 – click here

I’ve been pretty good this year. I have even impressed myself with the fact that I have stuck with my Yoga at The Kingfisher in Kingston, Surrey for 6 months now and can even master a headstand (albeit against a wall, but still!)

It’s funny how the smallest achievements can make you happy!

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change” #instagramquotes

I’m sure they didn’t mean for everyone to stand on their head to get a different perspective but hey – whatever works!

Follow Beauty Call on Instagram – click here

Another great person to follow on instagram is @yoga_girl, amazing inspiration and not just for yoga… Kathryn our Manchester Franchisee can back me up on that as she is a fan too!

I went to St Tropez last weekend after visiting my lovely beautician Suzanne at The Lensbury Club in Teddington, for a few days on a hen party and it wasn’t until I came home that I realised how much I needed a break.

Life can be so quick these days; not enough time in the day to get everything done or see the people we care about.

This prompted me to write a mid year resolutions list…

I wrote down what and whom were the most important in my life and have decided to concentrate on them. (Also a great massage from Vida Therapy in Teddington helps!)

Quality most definitely out rules quantity, contrary to what we believed when Facebook first came out…(I still have those 400 friends I never speak to but that wish me happy birthday every year!)

So to all you brides out there planning guest lists and arguing with the in laws- think of the stress that will be wreaking havoc with your skin and weight. Put a bit of extra cash away to spoil you and your new hubby on your honeymoon and give yourself a bit of ‘me’ time- a sort of ‘clear out for the soul’ – you will enjoy your wedding day so much more!

Life is a journey, try to enjoy it right now as opposed to constantly looking for it’s destination!

Vintage Elopement Photoshoot – Vintage Hair and Makeup Yorkshire

Lots of Vintage Hair and Makeup Yorkshire:

I was recently asked to take part in a photoshoot by the very talented Jill and Julia from Todd & Moore photography. The theme was ‘vintage elopement’ which sounded like a great concept especially as we were shooting along the North York Moors Steam Engine Railway on what turned out to be a beautiful sunny day!

vintage hair and makeup yorkshire

The vintage makeup look I went for was the classic 1950′s vintage make-up look – flawless porcelain skin (using Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation and Smashbox Photo Finishing Powder), strong flicked black eyeliner (Illamasqua Gel Liner in Black) and of course a bold red statement lip using ‘MAC Red’ lipstick.

vintage hair and makeup yorkbridal makeup yorkshire

For the models hair I created a couple of victory rolls with some soft waves in the remaining hair left down. I later changed the hairstyle to a more sophisticated french roll style updo before letting it all down to do its own thing for the final ‘Wuthering Heights’ style shots up on the moors!

The outcome of the pictures is amazing and such a great team of local suppliers to work with!

Asian Beauty – Indian Wedding Hair and Makeup Hertfordshire

Last month I had the pleasure of doing indian wedding hair and makeup for Farhana and her sister, for their brother’s wedding.

Indian wedding hair and makeup

I created their look by using the following products from my kit:

Laura Mercier Radiance Primer

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light Foundation

MAC Cremeblend Blush

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Palettes – Naked 1 and Naked 3

Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner

YSL False Lash Effect Mascara

Cluster Lashes

Ben Nye Ruby Red Lipstick

I set the tikka headpieces in place while I was styling their hair and used a small amount of clear lash adhesive to set the jewels in place on the forehead, as this prevents the jewel moving around.

I had such a fun morning get these ladies ready and they looked absolutely amazing in their outfits!
