Wedding in Hertfordshire, St Albans

I recently had the great pleasure of doing Emma’s hair and makeup for her wedding in Hertfordshire.  I first met Emma back in January for her trial and it soon became clear that we shared a passion for animals, especially cats!

Emma and Matt were married and had their wedding reception at St Michael’s Manor Hotel, a stunning wedding venue in St Albans, Hertfordshire.  Even though it was a rainy day, the gardens and surroundings looked spectacular and the weather certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit!

Emma’s bridal gown was a beautifully detailed Ronald Joyce satin dress from The Bridal House in Aston Clinton (Bucks).

Therefore, Emma chose a classic wedding hair up-do with slight volume on top and soft curls pinned at the back.

I created Emma’s look by using the following products:

Emma’s choice of dress along with her hair and makeup worked really well with her flowers – red and white roses by Bernie Watkins.

And, the very next day, Emma and Matt jetted off to New Zealand for their honeymoon.

Wedding Makeup Artist Harrogate

Hi there! I’m Aimee, wedding makeup artist Harrogate.

Just thought I would take this opportunity to introduce myself after spending time training at the Beauty Call Studio Head Office in Shoreditch, London with Phil and Nicky.

I have worked for Alison (franchisee for Beauty Call in York and Leeds) for 18 months now and have loved meeting lots of lovely brides, both on their hen do’s and on their wedding day, as well as getting to visit some beautiful wedding venues.

How to choose the right wedding hair for your big day

With out a doubt, choosing the right hairstyle for your wedding day can be one of the toughest decisions.

With hundreds of styles to choose from it will seem like daunting task and leading up to the trial you may still have no clue!……

Well that’s what we as the wedding hair stylists are here for, but to help you narrow your choices down before hand, here are a few simple tips!

1)   Will your wedding reception be inside or outside? With an outside reception I would recommend having your hair up as you don’t need to worry about the elements!

wedding hair idea

2)   How do you feel most comfortable wearing your hair? When have you made an effort for an evening out and felt amazing?

wedding hair stylist London

3)   At your next dress fitting bring some grips or a hair tie with you. You may not be able to style hair, but you can still play around and get an idea of what shape of hairstyle looks best on you and with the dress.

4)  If you’re set on wearing your hair down, try either pinning a few bits up, add a little height at the crown to add detail or dress a natural loose wave with a pretty side alice band.

5)  The style of the hair should compliment the dress perfectly and not in anyway compete with it. If there is a lot of detailing on the dress perhaps choose a simpler style.

6)    What is the neckline of the dress? You don’t want the hair to cover up any detailing.

7)   Alternatively if the neckline is clean and simple, you can afford to make a real statement with your hair!

Hair accessories and flowers look beautiful pined into the style. Although ensure not to go over board and choose accessories with a classic finish to keep the style looking elegant.

Prom makeup ideas

Proms and Pink Lips

With the prom season almost upon us, enquiries for these budding young women in the SE (South East London), DA (Dartford) and BR (Bromley) postcodes are coming in thick and fast.  Here are some prom makeup ideas!

The most desired look for these girls is the Fuschia / Hot Pink Lips look.

First seen on my favourite celebs Rihanna and Kim Kardashian, despite the fact that most of the girls requesting this look are teenagers it can be worn by women of all ages, depending on how daring you are willing to be! I’ve seen 75 year old, ‘Nanny Pat‘ from ‘The Only Way is Essex‘ sporting Fuschia lips and she looked stunning.

Kim Kardashian Prom makeup

The look focuses on a striking, bold hot pink mouth, contoured bronzed cheekbones and full / thick lashes, either using a fair few strokes of mascara or faking it with falsies.

I’d recommend using a pink lip pencil to outline your mouth first; it makes it easier to get the lipstick accurately on to the lips. Magenta by Mac is one of my favourite lip pencils.

I prefer to use a matte or semi matte lipstick for this look as this type of lipstick will stay put for much longer. If you prefer a glossier look just add a little clear lip-gloss to the bottom lip.

My favourite Pink/Pink Lipsticks for this look include:

Girl about Town by MAC
Carthage by Nars
Funny Face by Nars
Eurydice by Illamasqua

Nars funnyface

This look is a great look for sunny days or evenings and works well whether you are going for a casual look or a more dressy/glamorous look.

Give it a go!

We’re now the hair and makeup supplier for The Clarendon Hotel London, Greenwich

I was so delighted to be one of a handful of local wedding suppliers invited to join The Clarendon Hotel London’s recommended suppliers list and attend their wedding fair weekend in February.

The Clarendon Hotel Blackheath, South East London Clarendon Hotel Greenwich Wedding Fair

Set with great views of Blackheath Village and within walking distance of Greenwich Park, this hotel has to be one of the most charming hotels in South East London.

The Clarendon Hotel London

I enjoyed a weekend of mingling with local wedding suppliers and being spoilt by the waiting staff, that offered very generous samples of food and wine. Julie, the wonderful wedding coordinator spent the day entertaining us as, well as informing us of how the hotel is run.

I was also thrilled to hear that anyone staying at the hotel next weekend has the fortune of having a full view of the start of The London Marathon 2013, as the race begins just metres away from The Clarendon Hotel London.

I’m extremely excited to be working so closely with such an established and well-run hotel and look forward to spending time with all the great staff and lucky brides getting married here.

Travel Light! Easter Getaway Makeup Guide

Travel Light Makeup Guide!

To get over the January blues I was lucky enough to go away to Dubai. But now I am back all I can think of, is escaping this cold weather, and what a perfect time with the Easter tomorrow.

If you are anything like me you don’t travel light. I find it a nightmare keeping to the 20kg limit that the airport restricts you to.  So I wanted to share my top travel make-up essentials.

My first essential is a little set by Dior:

Dior

  • It includes three eyeshadows which are perfect for day and night
  • A liner and brow shadow
  • Little brush, tweezers and mascara
  • And a decent sized mirror.

I also suggest taking:

  • Shimmer Brush by Mac In Springsheen
  • Lipstick Mac speak louder
  • Lucas Papaw ointment
  • Cherry lip liner Mac
  • Few brushes
  • Evian in a can
  • Chanel tinted moisturiser, blotting papers

MAC

MAC Lipstick

MAC liner

If you traveling to somewhere warm you don’t generally want to apply a lot of make up anyway so by just taking a few key products you will be able to create enough looks for a week.

If you’re off to the beach or poolside!

Beach holiday

What you will need :

  • Evian in a can, Lucas Papaw and speak louder lipstick, Dior kit
  • You are likely to be in direct sunlight so remember more is less.
  • Hydrate your skin by applying the Evian spray to your face, and make sure you hydrate from the inside too by drinking plenty of water.  Not only will this keep your skin plump but it will keep you cool.
  • Groom your brows and lashes. I suggest getting them tinted before you go and then just brush them with a mascara wand to keep in place.  To add definition use the Dior Brow shadow and slanted brush.
  • To finish this look just add a little colour to the lips, use the speak louder lipstick apply by dabbing a small amount onto the lips with your ring finger so that you just get a little product and then add a little papaw.  The Papaw helps keep the lips moist and protected from wind. The Papaw is great to take with you everywhere, not only is great to use as a lip balm but its good for the following: Minor Burns & Scalds,Sunburn, Gravel Rash, Cuts & Minor Open Wounds, Insect Bites amongst other thingsSee here for full list : http://www.lucaspapaw.com.au It’s always in my hand luggage!  The only problem it’s only available in Australia, so if you are holidaying there be sure to pick some up!

Lucas Papaw

Beach to Lunch

  • Add a little of the light shadow to the lid of your eye with the little brush and one coat of mascara.

Day to Night

It’s likely to be a little cooler now so you can apply a little more make up, you’ll need:

Dior Kit, Blush, Lipstick, Lucas Papaw, Cherry Lip Liner, Tinted moisturiser, Evian, blotting paper

  • Start with applying the Evian spray, this again will hydrate the skin and cool it too. It is also great to use on plane and also at the end of the night.
  • Apply Chanel tinted moisturiser over the whole face start, use a flat brush or sponge to apply to give you a even base.  Tinted moisturiser is a great alternative to foundation when on holiday.  Not only is it lighter so you hardly feel like you are wearing any but it water based so won’t slide off the face like an oil based one!
  • Create a smoky eye using the 3 shadows, apply the lightest shadow all over the lid and then take the mid-tone shade into the crease of the eye to blend and create the “Smokey” effect. Emulsify the darkest shadow and run across the bottom of the eyelid/lashline to create a soft liner.  If you want something stronger add a little more of the dark shadow to the outer corners of the eyes
  • Add a few coats of mascara
  • Add a little blush to the apples of the cheeks using circular movements from the apples upwards
  • To create a stronger lip, fill in the lips with the liner and then add the lipstick using a lip brush for a fuller and bolder look
  • I don’t ever take powder with me, as I like a dewy look, instead I use the blotting powder to matt and absorb any extra oils.

There are so many more combinations you can do, try using lip liner with the Papaw or the blush as an eye shadow.  Enjoy mixing up the looks and hopefully seeing some sunshine.

And don’t forget always protect your skin with sun cream.

Wedding Fayres in Wiltshire

With the wedding season fast approaching February and March are a very busy time for both brides-to-be deciding on their suppliers, as well as the wedding suppliers dealing with an influx of enquiries and exhibiting at the counties best fayres.

It was a busy month for me with wedding fayres in Wiltshire and dealing with all the enquiries too!

There was no rest on Sunday where I exhibited for the first time at the stunning Wellington Barn near Calne. Set in the beautiful rolling Wiltshire countryside it is nestled into the landscape far from any hustle and bustle.

Red Lips at LFW……Rouge is the colour

Red Lips at LFW – Antonio Berardi

Rouge Lips at LFW

London Fashion Week has come and gone and not without featuring a few red lips!

I just love wearing red lips and wanted to share my top tips.

It’s not that scary and there is a shade for everyone and if you really don’t like it try the alternative to the red lip.

My essential kit includes:

Red lipstick, lip liner, pencil sharpener, lip balm and scrub, highlighter, lip brush, concealer or foundation and tissues.

First off, be sure to exfoliate and moisturise the lips so they are in good condition before you apply any lipsticks. I know January and February can be hard on the wallet so why not try making your own exfoliator from things in the kitchen cupboard:

- mix sugar and honey
- add olive oil, and mint essence
- use a soft toothbrush in circular movements to exfoliate the dead skin

For a longer lasting even finish and fuller perfectly kissable lips, get a lip liner that matches your lipstick. Enhance the bow and fill whole lip with lip liner flowed by lipstick application. Try a lip brush for a smoother, more consistent finish.  Matt down the lips with a tissue and then apply a second layer of lipstick.

Red Lipstick

Lip brush number 318 from Mac is great brush to use as is retractable so you won’t get any red in your make up bag!

Highlight your cupids bow and use a slightly lighter foundation around the lips to make them pop.

For super glossy red lips use a red coloured gloss on top of a red lipstick all over the lips, to stop bleeding around the edges use concealer and powder on top.

Matte lipsticks have a retro feel and will last longer than glossy more moisturising ones.

Ruby Woo by MAC lipstick

Here are my favourites:

Mac Ruby Woo – looks great on fair skin with dark or blond hair as seen below on Dita Von Teese and Gwen Stefani

Dita Von Teese Gwen Stefani

Mac Lady Danger has a orange tone to it and looks good on fair skin tones as seen on Drew Barry more and Redheads as seen on Paloma Faith.  Olive tones also suit this colour.

Drew Barrymore  Paloma Faith

By Terry Fanatic Red – this a luscious glossy red and looks great on brunettes, I love that this lipstick comes in a little velvety bag

By Terry Fanatic Red

And for those who still find red to bold try lip liner all over the lip and then add a gloss, cherry by Mac is good for lining the lip.

Enjoy trying out your perfect shade of red.  Sarah CL x
