Wedding Hair and Makeup County Durham and Darlington

March has proved to be a busy one for me, Aimee who looks after the Darlington and Harrogate areas for Beauty Call.

Early March I was working with some local suppliers in the picturesque Hebdan Bridge on a photo shoot with Milliner-Chrissie King and Toast of Leeds Photography – see my blog about that click here

Some of my wedding hair and makeup trials in March took me to:
Billingham in Teesside, Shildon in Darlington and Stainton in County Durham.

Whilst in the area I had the pleasure of paying the beautiful Whitworth Hall Country Park, County Durham, a visit to have a look around and leave some Beauty Call info with their wedding co-ordinator Jackie.

Driving up the winding driveway, leading to Whitworth Hall you are greeted by some beautiful sights. To the right hand side is a large lake surrounded by wildlife including dear and lush, green park land, before you pass in front of the hotel into the spacious car park.

You can’t help picturing some beautiful wedding photographs in these grounds!

To finish the month of I was one of the wedding suppliers chosen by Crook Hall and Gardens to exhibit at their Wedding Fair. And what a lovely fair it was to be part of.

This is a wonderful venue, situated in the centre of County Durham, you would not believe that you are in a city centre. Once in the grounds and inside the venue it feels more like you are in the middle of the countryside.

The venue was full of great local suppliers ready to meet all the brides and grooms to be. Some of the suppliers I got a chance to chat to were; Something Borrowed North East – these lovely girls have some beautiful things to hire out for your big day. Also Simon Hudspeth Photography and Wild Brides at Heart – Bridal Gowns.

This quirky venue seemed to appeal to a lot of brides wanting a venue with a difference. I chatted with lots of brides-to-be about their wedding hair and makeup ideas and it seemed that quite a few were thinking of something with a vintage edge as well as those opting for a more romantic look.

Wedding hair and makeup in Sussex

With the wedding season fast approaching and just coming back from maternity leave I was a busy little bee with Wedding Fairs and wedding hair and makeup in Sussex in March.

The 1st wedding fair in March was at Nonsuch Mansion, Cheam, where the lovely Jade and Lucy invited all the suppliers from their ‘Little White Book’ – so any newly engaged couples can meet the experts and plan their big day:

Now following on from the wedding fairs, I’ve got a full month ahead of wedding hair and makeup trials.

Motives Cosmetics Review

I love trying out new makeup products but, I have to say, I’m normally quite dubious about spending money on a product when I don’t know what it’s like… hence why I always try and get samples of products first.

So, when my lovely friend Agnes Dos Santos at Perfect Eyelashes gave me some Motives Makeup to try, I jumped at the chance to write up a Motives Cosmetics review!

Motives-Cosmetics-Review

I was lucky enough to test the following:

Primer – A silicon-based, satin-finish primer that helps keep makeup looking fresh all day. I really like this primer as it’s so lightweight – it absorbs excess oils and minimises the appearance of pores and it’s very similar to my current Screenface primer, only cheaper.

Pressed Powder – A velvety-smooth powder that absorbs shine while setting makeup to create an even and flawless finish. I’ve been using MAC powder for years but I would quite happily swap to this product as I think it gives better coverage and it lasts a lot longer.

Blusher – Great pigment and colour intensity which lasted all day. I would normally go for a bronze coloured blusher, but this soft pink/peach colour looked great on my skin.

Brow Kit – A good little kit for shaping, grooming, and defining your brows. The kit contains wax to sculpt the brows and two powder shades to create a natural look. The powder gives a much nicer finish than pencil and it stays put, no touch-ups necessary.

Lipstick – A creamy lipstick containing Vitamin E for luscious lips.  This particular shade was a nice neutral pink colour that moisturises your lips with every application. A staple lipstick for any makeup bag!

Lip Treatment – A refined lip balm that soothes, re-plumps, hydrates, and protects the lips. This promises bigger lips after a month of use when applied 3 times a day! Although I haven’t used this for a month yet, it seems like a good little product and makes a nice change to Carmex.

Overall I’m very impressed with the selection of makeup that I’ve tried and I’m also quite surprised at the prices, very affordable. I’ll definitely be adding some Motives products to my kit and using them on my brides for bridal makeup in Hertfordshire.

Hair and Makeup Artist Harrogate – Photoshoot by Hat Therapy

A boy a girl and a bike….
by Toast of Leeds Photography

Hi! Aimee here. I’m the Beauty Call franchisee and hair and makeup artist Harrogate and Darlington postcodes.

I had the pleasure of working with some talented Yorkshire suppliers a couple of weeks ago in the lovely town of Hebden Bridge.

The shoot was organised by milliner Chrissie King of Hat Therapy – she themed the shoot around the late 1940’s British film “A Boy, a Girl and a Bike” to showcase some of her works of art!

Photography was Toast of Leeds which I think you will agree is stunning!
Visit Toast’s website click here.

The other lovely suppliers involved are all credited at the bottom of the post so please take a look.

The highlights of the day had to be shooting at Hebden Chippy where we all wolfed down some fish and chips in between shots and then gatecrashing the local bike shop, Blazing Saddles. I don’t think they were used to having models, photographers, hair and makeup artists squeezed into their back workshop but they were very accommodating.

Here are a few of my favourite images from the day!

Lush, Lush Skincare Products by Kat x

I have walked past the Lush shop in Manchester so many times and enjoyed the fabulous smells, but for some reason never made a purchase… Until Now!

After doing a few weddings recently and hearing the bridal party raving about these wonderful natural Lush skincare products, I decided to give them a try. I have been using them for nearly one month now and will definitely be re-stocking when they run out.

Here is the bundle of joy that arrived in my bathroom:

Lush skincare products

Now for my step-by-step skincare routine:

Ultrabland Facial Cleanser maybe one of the most luxurious products I have ever used. Similar to cold cream this gentle cleansing cream leaves my skin feeling soft and cared for. It’s made with beeswax and honey and smells good enough to eat. I smooth it all over my skin and wipe away with a warm flannel.

- I then spray my soft plump clean skin with Eau Roma Water. Lots of toners leave the skin feeling striped and dry, this does the opposite. As you spray the product you can smell the rose water and feel the calming effect of the lavender (great after a long day!). It leaves my skin feeling toned and hydrated.

- Now for Dark Angels (I only use this 2/3 times a week) – take the tiniest amount in your finger tips and massage on to damp skin, you can use it for face and body. Dark Angels will lift all the dead skin cells on the surface and leave you with smooth clean skin – you will feel like you have been in a Turkish mud bath….Not great for the bathroom but amazing for the complexion.

- Ayesha Facemask, again use 2/3 times per week. Keep Ayesha in the fridge because she is a live product and needs a cool environment. Apply to the skin with finger tips or a brush and sit back and relax for 10/15 mins and let Ayesha do her work. She contains asparagus which will help break down dead skin sells to leave your skin looking and feeling smoother. Also because the mask is so cold when you remove it you feel like you have had a face lift, always a bonus!

- Enchanted Eye Cream, I am obsessed with eye cream and have used it from a very young age. Enchanted Eye Cream not only works wonders, it is fabulous value for money. It costs around £11 for 45g. It’s a beautiful light weight moisturising eye cream which contains organic oils.

- Last but not at all least, Imperials Moisturiser bursting with plant infusions of lavender, St Johns Wart, sweet violet, sunflower, elderflower and mullein. This light weight cream is absorbed quickly and leaves my skin feeling revived and glowing.

These products really are fabulous, they are fairly priced and are all made of natural of ingredients. I cannot wait to explore the Lush range more. Why not help the environment and look flawless at the same time! I know I will continue to use Lush products for a very long time my skin has never looked better, why didn’t I do this years ago :/

And I promise Lush had no involvement in this blog!!!

A beautifully busy Spring for wedding hair and makeup in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire

It has been an amazingly busy Spring for me here at Beauty Call with lots of new opportunities and even more beautiful brides for wedding hair and makeup in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire!

The end of February saw me at the gorgeous Hyde Barn in Gloucestershire where I did wedding hair and makeup for Hannah’s glamorous country wedding, along with the help of Harriet assisting me all morning.

Weddings in Wiltshire

I received this lovely email a couple of days later:

“Hi Marie, I’ll send a formal card in the coming weeks but in the meantime I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say thank you so much to you and Harriet.  You worked so hard to fit everyone in. The bridal party looked amazing. Everyone’s stayed put all day, even withstanding the late-night boogieing! Personally I was so pleased with the look you created for me, it was perfect…thank you! Kind regards Hannah xx”

As well as having a great time making up Hannah and her bridal party, that morning I also got a call from The English Hair & Beauty Awards telling m I had made it into the finals for “Makeup Specialist of the year 2014“! It really was a super day!!

English Hair & Beauty Awards Marie Kelly Beauty Call

The other week I was at the annual Wiltshire Wedding Show at Salisbury City Hall, organised by the lovely Catherine Dunning at Ladies Who Love Events, where me & my team consisting of Marie-S & Katrina did all the hair and makeup for the fashion show, as well as exhibiting.

Getting tip-top hair for your wedding:

Winter has nearly past (thank goodness!) and lots of my Berkshire and Oxfordshire brides are asking me what they can do do get their hair in the best condition for the perfect bridal up do or shiny waves.

There are many hair masks on the market that are great but if you fancy trying something organic how about saving the pennies and opting to make your own?

Try Pure Coconut Oil and Honey Hair Rescue Mask (you can buy pure coconut oil from health food stores such as Holland and Barrett)
Coconut oil for hair

Pure honey for hair

1. Mix 1-2 tsp of Virgin Coconut Oil with 1 tsp of Honey mix into a paste and apply to damp hair.

2. Leave it for 20-30 mins and wash out with your normal shampoo and conditioner.

3. If hair still feels slightly oily after your first shampoo, shampoo twice.

4. Apply once a week for dry damaged hair it works wonders!

5. Make sure you have regular trims to keep ends looking thick and healthy in the run up to your wedding, and have your hair trial before trying out a new cut or getting any layers put in.

Your local Beauty Call hair and makeup artist will be able to advise you depending on the style you decide on at your trial, and then give you the perfect hair for your wedding!

My life as a new Beauty Call Franchisee for Kent

On the 30th December, in the spirit of New Year new challenges, I took the plunge to run the Beauty Call Franchisee for Kent – view my artist page here . It’s been full speed ahead on the Beauty Call train, with my work so far including wedding fairs, trials, weddings, hen parties, fashion shows, a live chat on Facebook talking all things wedding hair and beauty.

It was when I received my official Beauty Call business cards arrived that I felt part of the team of hair stylist and makeup artists – and with fear of sounding a bit cheesy… what a great team it is!

Samantha - Beauty Call Franchisee for Kent

As a Beauty Call artist for Kent, I have been to fairs held at Winter Garden, – Eastbourne, Glow – Bluewater, Eastwell Manor – Ashford and Hotel Du Vin – Tunbridge Wells – all of which have been very busy and giving me a great opportunity to speak to many brides-to-be getting married in Kent.

Wedding Fairs in Kent Wedding Hair and Makeup Kent

At the Bluewater Glow wedding show, the Beauty Call team were getting the models ready, doing their hair and makeup for the fashion show. It was an extremely busy but fun few days getting everyone ready. Check out the video of the girls strutting their stuff with their fabulous hair and makeup.

The Beauty Call team were also on hand doing mini hair and makeup trials at the fair, which was a great way to meet brides and chat about the different hair and make-up styles they wanted for their weddings.

I have plenty more fairs I will be attending over the coming few months, if you are getting married this year, please come to see me and the team at wedding fairs in venues around the country.

At the Bluewater fair, it was great to be opposite familiar faces and the lovely ladies (and gentleman) from Hever Castle - a beautiful wedding venue and for whom we are a recommended supplier.

Talking of Hever Castle, my colleague and I attended a beautiful Christmas wedding in December there, for the lovely Simon and Jayne. The wedding had a wonderful Christmas vibe with the gorgeous claret bridesmaid’s dresses and a touch of vintage.  Photographs from the talented Penny Young Photography, who captured the day beautifully.

Don’t forget the Groom hair and beauty!

Marie-S, franchisee for Hampshire – PO (Portsmouth) and SO (Southampton) postcodes here.

As well as my franchise, I also work in a male barber shop, and this got me thinking about how important it is for the groom to look great on the big day:

So let’s not forget about the importance of the groom hair and beauty

…the one day a man needs to look his best and that’s his wedding day…girls remember to remind your men how important this is!

There was a time when the grooms let the brides lap up all the attention on their wedding day, but now it’s time for men to take a step forward.

groom hair

If a guy is thinking about trying a new hair style for his wedding day then he needs to think about it about four or five cuts before the wedding day, always go for something that doesn’t date like a high side parting.

Avoid any oily products that will make your hair look too greasy..American Crew Fiber has great hold but a matt finish, and if you want hair spray then a great unscented on is Schwarzkopf Professional 3DMENSION strong hold.

Don’t forget to make sure your neck is clean and tidy too as you will be seen from the back ,so a good neck shave is essential.

If you have a beard the trick is to make them look clean and tidy, without them looking too fake, have a professional cut and shave/beard trim a couple of days before (if you guys like the stubble).

groom beauty regime

Lastly….the groom isn’t the only man that needs to look his best..encourage your man to get his best man, father of the bride and groom’s mates to all look their best by going to the barbershop for some pre-wedding primping!

TIPS for Grooms

DO get a manicure, after all the man’s hands are on display too

DON’T go overboard on the fragrance or aftershave

DO get a facial but time it a week or so before the day and not the day before!
