It’s All About the Pout! Bridal Makeup Harrogate

Bridal Makeup Harrogate

Once again I’m happy to say that this Summer it’s all about the pout!

We have seen lots of beautiful, strong lips at fashion weeks. There has been a mixture of shades from a pop of pink, a summery orangey-red and sexy plum wine shades.

If you are feeling brave and want a makeup look that is bang on trend then get yourself down to your favourite make up counter or have a dig into your make-up bag for that lipstick that you haven’t dared to wear yet and try teaming it up with minimal eye make up.

Just one tip, to keep your look on trend, keep your lips matte. If you are used to a glossy lip then matte can feel quite different but it looks amazing!

Givenchy Le Rouge shade Croisiere in coral

I loved Leah’s lips on The Voice on Friday nights show (7th June), she went for a fresh orange-red shade. Try MAC lipstick Morange to recreate a similar look or Givenchy Le Rouge shade Croisiere in coral. Also Amanda on Saturday nights Britain’s Got Talent was sporting a strong lip, she had opted for a deep classic red.

Looking at the catwalk for inspiration, Burberry went for the deep plum wine shade whilst Nina Ricci went for one of my favourites to wear with a Matte red, try MAC matte lipstick ruby woo. Holly Fulton was showcasing an original eye catching lip which I am definitely going to be trying which combined two bright shades, a bright coral and a bright pink, love it!

Burberry SS2013

If you have thin lips it doesn’t mean you can’t wear a bold lip, try another technique seen on the catwalk and accentuate the outer shape of your lips with a pencil, try a slightly darker shade of pencil just on the outer edge of your lip line.

I am looking forward to meeting some more brides this Summer that are getting married in the Harrogate or Darlington area, wanting something a bit different and trying out one of these looks. I have had a few vintage weddings where the bride has gone for a matte red and it looks stunning! Looking forward to seeing the power pouts about!

Bridal and the Bump

This weekend I (Dannique) had a great time chaperoning my 6 month pregnant cousin to her final wedding dress fitting! She looked absolutely stunning. Whilst there I picked up a few helpful hints and tips to pass on to my expectant brides to be.

- Do a little research, flick through magazines and the internet to get some ideas of maternity wedding dresses that are available.

- Find a Bridal shop that specialises in maternity wedding dresses. Perfection Bridal on Bromley High Street (BR1 1PQ) is great!

- Tell the gown shop exactly how many months you will be on your wedding day, this will give them a better idea of when you should order your dress.

- Go for an empire line dress it will support your bump perfectly and is also on trend.

pregnant bride

- Make sure the fabric of the dress is unrestrictive, flows and is light. Silk, satin and lace are great fabrics for pregnant brides.  More structured fabrics may not fall gracefully around your bump.

- Make sure the dress tucks in slightly at the waist. This will accentuate your gorgeous figure.

pregnant wedding dress

- A low swopping neckline will help balance your figure. You can find a dress that has a lace netting on the top if you would prefer not to show off too much flesh on top.

- Straps are fantastic, for a more on trend look try an asymmetric strap, or straps that are slightly off the shoulders.

wedding dress with straps

- Make sure your dress will accommodate a totally comfortable bra.

- Lastly ditch the heels! There are some absolutely gorgeous bridal sandals out there.

I hope my tips come in handy. Congratulations for your double celebrations!

Wedding Photo shoot with Peter Prior Photography

On Thursday 9th May I worked on a wedding photo shoot with the lovely Peter Prior, a wedding photographer from Sussex!

Peter was holding a seminar for other photographers on how to shoot a wedding at “The Grand Hotel” in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

There were 12 other photographers in total so as you can imagine I was under a lot of pressure to make my models Ollie and Caitlin look amazing! Not that they needed much help!

wedding photo shoot with Peter Prior Photography

A lot of preparation went into this shoot, I had to arrange a wedding dress and some hair accessories for Caitlin to wear, in order to make her look like a real bride!

I managed to borrow a dress from the fantastic Whyte Weddings in Eastbourne, they have some really gorgeous dresses!

The hair accessories came from Jennine at The Tiara Co – a lovely lady who hand makes all of her pieces. They are stunning and I would definitely consider using one for my wedding day!!

The look I went for with Caitlin was quite a bo-ho style which complemented the feathered style dress and suited the full fringe she surprised me with on the morning on the shoot!

All in all it was a great day, the images look amazing and I’m definitely looking forward to working with Peter again in the near future!

Do you know your BB Cream from your CC and DD?

It’s that time of year when we should be basking in the sun…sadly it’s a little cold for us (even on the Hampshire South Coast (PO and SO postcodes) where I’m based!) but this doesn’t mean we should be neglecting the skin on our face.

Hydrating and nourishing are key to looking fresh faced and flawless under our makeup.

flawless makeup

BB cream has become very popular over the last year… and now we are hearing about CC cream and more recently the announcement of a new DD cream!

But, do we know the difference?

BB cream offers some coverage to the face and is lighter than foundation but heavier than tinted moisturiser plus primer with SPF benefits.

CC cream covers the above but also all day long anti-ageing skin treatment that corrects uneven skin tone and redness. It’s normally a lightweight formula that gives a dewy look to the skin.

And now DD cream! This will be launched as a ‘Dynamic Do All’ cream for body, which I can imagine will be beneficial to those of us who just love to try anything to make our skin feel soft and radiant.

CC creams

The only drawback? There are less choice of colours for the BB and CC creams so be careful when choosing your shade. But as the weather warms up and we find we need coverage but don’t want to be using anything heavier, the CC cream is definitely worth having in your make up bag! It will definitely be in mine…

Enjoy experimenting with these creams and roll on the summer!

Wedding in Hertfordshire, St Albans

I recently had the great pleasure of doing Emma’s hair and makeup for her wedding in Hertfordshire.  I first met Emma back in January for her trial and it soon became clear that we shared a passion for animals, especially cats!

Emma and Matt were married and had their wedding reception at St Michael’s Manor Hotel, a stunning wedding venue in St Albans, Hertfordshire.  Even though it was a rainy day, the gardens and surroundings looked spectacular and the weather certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit!

Emma’s bridal gown was a beautifully detailed Ronald Joyce satin dress from The Bridal House in Aston Clinton (Bucks).

Therefore, Emma chose a classic wedding hair up-do with slight volume on top and soft curls pinned at the back.

I created Emma’s look by using the following products:

Emma’s choice of dress along with her hair and makeup worked really well with her flowers – red and white roses by Bernie Watkins.

And, the very next day, Emma and Matt jetted off to New Zealand for their honeymoon.

How to choose the right wedding hair for your big day

With out a doubt, choosing the right hairstyle for your wedding day can be one of the toughest decisions.

With hundreds of styles to choose from it will seem like daunting task and leading up to the trial you may still have no clue!……

Well that’s what we as the wedding hair stylists are here for, but to help you narrow your choices down before hand, here are a few simple tips!

1)   Will your wedding reception be inside or outside? With an outside reception I would recommend having your hair up as you don’t need to worry about the elements!

wedding hair idea

2)   How do you feel most comfortable wearing your hair? When have you made an effort for an evening out and felt amazing?

wedding hair stylist London

3)   At your next dress fitting bring some grips or a hair tie with you. You may not be able to style hair, but you can still play around and get an idea of what shape of hairstyle looks best on you and with the dress.

wedding hair London

4)  If you’re set on wearing your hair down, try either pinning a few bits up, add a little height at the crown to add detail or dress a natural loose wave with a pretty side alice band.

beauty call wedding hair

5)  The style of the hair should compliment the dress perfectly and not in anyway compete with it. If there is a lot of detailing on the dress perhaps choose a simpler style.

6)    What is the neckline of the dress? You don’t want the hair to cover up any detailing.

7)   Alternatively if the neckline is clean and simple, you can afford to make a real statement with your hair!

Hair accessories and flowers look beautiful pined into the style. Although ensure not to go over board and choose accessories with a classic finish to keep the style looking elegant.

Prom makeup ideas

Proms and Pink Lips

With the prom season almost upon us, enquiries for these budding young women in the SE (South East London), DA (Dartford) and BR (Bromley) postcodes are coming in thick and fast.  Here are some prom makeup ideas!

The most desired look for these girls is the Fuschia / Hot Pink Lips look.

First seen on my favourite celebs Rihanna and Kim Kardashian, despite the fact that most of the girls requesting this look are teenagers it can be worn by women of all ages, depending on how daring you are willing to be! I’ve seen 75 year old, ‘Nanny Pat‘ from ‘The Only Way is Essex‘ sporting Fuschia lips and she looked stunning.

Kim Kardashian Prom makeup

The look focuses on a striking, bold hot pink mouth, contoured bronzed cheekbones and full / thick lashes, either using a fair few strokes of mascara or faking it with falsies.

I’d recommend using a pink lip pencil to outline your mouth first; it makes it easier to get the lipstick accurately on to the lips. Magenta by Mac is one of my favourite lip pencils.

I prefer to use a matte or semi matte lipstick for this look as this type of lipstick will stay put for much longer. If you prefer a glossier look just add a little clear lip-gloss to the bottom lip.

My favourite Pink/Pink Lipsticks for this look include:

Girl about Town by MAC
Carthage by Nars
Funny Face by Nars
Eurydice by Illamasqua

Nars funnyface

This look is a great look for sunny days or evenings and works well whether you are going for a casual look or a more dressy/glamorous look.

Give it a go!

We’re now the hair and makeup supplier for The Clarendon Hotel London, Greenwich

I was so delighted to be one of a handful of local wedding suppliers invited to join The Clarendon Hotel London’s recommended suppliers list and attend their wedding fair weekend in February.

The Clarendon Hotel Blackheath, South East London Clarendon Hotel Greenwich Wedding Fair

Set with great views of Blackheath Village and within walking distance of Greenwich Park, this hotel has to be one of the most charming hotels in South East London.

The Clarendon Hotel London

I enjoyed a weekend of mingling with local wedding suppliers and being spoilt by the waiting staff, that offered very generous samples of food and wine. Julie, the wonderful wedding coordinator spent the day entertaining us as, well as informing us of how the hotel is run.

I was also thrilled to hear that anyone staying at the hotel next weekend has the fortune of having a full view of the start of The London Marathon 2013, as the race begins just metres away from The Clarendon Hotel London.

I’m extremely excited to be working so closely with such an established and well-run hotel and look forward to spending time with all the great staff and lucky brides getting married here.
