3 Do-It-Yourself Bridal Beauty Treatments

We all know that brides need a bit of pampering. With the stress of planning a wedding, keeping friends and family happy and managing costs, it’s sometimes hard to stop and think about your own TLC before the big day. But instead of splashing out on hundreds of pounds that could go towards those oh-so-cute wedding favours instead, why not get your girlfriends together and try out these DIY versions of popular bridal treatments for a fraction of the price and tons more fun!

  1. Vitamin C Facial

Vitamin C is gold dust for the skin. Its purest form is ascorbic acid, which has been known to diminish the effects of sun damage, lighten dark spots and can even help prevent wrinkles. First cleanse the skin with a Vitamin C wash and exfoliate with a good scrub such as the Vitamin C Cleansing Polish from The Body Shop. To finish, you need to replenish your skin with a rich moisturiser. Guinot have a great range of deep moisturisers at Beautique that will ensure your skin is healthy and revitalised as a perfect foundation for your wedding day look.

  1. UV Teeth Whitening

Many brides choose to have their teeth whitening by an expensive one-off UV cosmetic treatment but there are actually great kits that you can try at home to give a boost to your smile. If you don’t want the fiddly business of painting peroxide gel onto your teeth, try some teeth whitening strips that are also effective in giving you that dazzling white smile.

  1. Keratin Smoothing Treatment

All of the rage in salons across the country, Keratin treatments smooth out unruly hair using special chemicals and hot straightening irons. But there are plenty of products out there that will deep condition and smooth your hair with the help of Keratin protein. Lather some shampoo and follow up with Leave-In Conditioner. If your hair needs a bit of taming, try a quality straightener like the CHI Air Damp-to-Dry Ceramic Flat Iron that will leave your hair silky and enriched for your wedding weekend.

So don’t buy into those extortionate beauty fads, as a new bride you deserve the best and the best is what you’ll get is when it’s in your hands, or even the hands of your most trusted girlfriends. Invite them over a week before your wedding and let the pampering begin!

Beauty supplies for your wedding hair and makeup

Getting Ready for Your Big Day

For brides, the wedding day is a perfect chance to show yourself off at your beautiful best. All brides want their hair and makeup to look stunning when they walk down the aisle, whether they’ve chosen a traditional church wedding or an avant garde outdoor ceremony. So much thought and planning goes into the big day that sometimes the appearance of the bride takes a backseat. However, there are simple ways you can make sure you look

Preparation is Key

Even if you are relying on the help of friends and family instead of hiring a professional makeup artist or stylist, it’s best to have a trial run before the day itself. This way, you’ll know exactly what works and how you will look, and you can avoid trial and error at the last minute. You can also reduce pre-wedding nerves by having a massage or a full spa day in the week leading up to the wedding. If you want a healthy glow, make sure that you sort out a tanning appointment in advance, so that there are no orange disasters close to the big day.

Know When to Go Professional

Some brides prefer to do everything themselves to keep costs down, as a wedding is unfortunately an expensive affair. However, there are some departments that require the help of a professional. To keep yourself feeling confident throughout the big day and your honeymoon, book in for a professional waxing appointment. Well-shaped eyebrows are the key to your wedding face, so make sure you have the correct beauty supplies on hand, like those from Capital Hair & Beauty.

The Real You

Although it is tempting to ramp up the glamour on your wedding day, remember that you want to be able to recognise yourself in the pictures. This isn’t a night out with the girls, so tone down the blusher, and forget obvious fake eyelashes and brightly coloured eye shadow. A bride should look classy and timeless. Of course you can try out new hairstyles and makeup techniques for your wedding day, but make sure you go with the look that feels most natural and comfortable. You’ll spend most of the wedding dancing and socializing anyway.

On the Day

Make sure you have a touch-up kit on hand for the big day. If you get emotional or start to perspire, your makeup can really suffer and this will be reflected in the wedding pictures. Most makeup artists will advise that you use waterproof mascara in case of tears and if you use a professional for your makeup, ask them if they will lend you samples of the products they’ve used for the purpose of touching up.

Choosing the perfect wedding guest gifts

Choosing the perfect wedding guest gifts is all about finding something that is both appropriate and will be well received. This sound blindingly obvious but in my many years as a promotional products specialist I have learned that it is often the simplest item that works the best.

Wedding guest gifts

Take wedding favours. Brides up and down the country agonise over providing the perfect table gift for their guests. But as guests sharing in the joy of the big day, the last thing on our minds is “what’s the favour’? I heard a really sad story recently. The bride decided to give each of her 300 guests a handmade lavender sachet, embroidered with the couple’s initials. Her mother and aunts had spent the whole of the previous year lovingly sewing the bags and at the end of the wedding, hundreds of unwanted works of art lay scattered on the reception tables – and needless to say the bride was distraught. Having discarded the idea of chocolates as boring she embarked on the lavender route- but the hard fact was that sweets would have been appreciated far more by her guests and saved the family an enormous amount of time!

Pens remain the number one promotional item in the business world because they are always useful – everybody needs a pen and as it is a relatively low value gift most people are happy to receive it.

There’s no need to waste time searching for originality – just choose a gift you know will be welcome. So whether it is a favour, wedding present or gift for the bridesmaids or groomsmen play it safe.  If there isn’t a gift list opt for gift vouchers or cash. For favours confectionery presented in a pretty personalised box is hard to beat and for attendants consider engraved glass or a small item of jewellery or photo frame.

And remember like every other aspect of planning a wedding it should be fun!

Contacts vs Glasses on your wedding day……

When you’re approaching your wedding day, you likely have your hands full with all of the little decisions that will go into the event. A wedding involves endless preparation, and the truth is that you’re not really done planning and organizing until you put on the dress! But there are certain preparations that are of a higher priority than others, and one of these is figuring out just how you want to look for your wedding day.

Acuvue Contact Lenses for Weddings

Of course, to a large extent this means browsing “Hitched” (visit site) months in advance to find the perfect dress, or toying with different makeup and hairstyles for your wedding day image. But for many brides-to-be, it also means giving consideration to something a bit simpler: whether to wear contact lenses or glasses on your wedding day. For the most part, this is a very personal decision that will depend on your own general preferences and comfort level. But to look at the question in a general sense, here are some pros and cons of each option.

Contact Lenses

  • Contact lenses are the most flexible option. You can enjoy clear vision while dancing, being on the move, and taking photos without worrying about glasses staying put or reflecting camera flash.
  • Contacts can also be beauty accessories. For example, at Acuvue (visit site) you can purchase “Define” contacts, designed to enhance the natural colour and beauty of your eyes!

  • It’s going to be a long day and night, and many people’s eyes get irritated with prolonged contact wearing. If you tend to have comfort issues with contacts, it could be a risky option.
  • If you wear glasses on a day-to-day basis, contacts – for all their comfort and convenience – might just not look like you. If the switch would keep you from looking the way people are used to seeing you, it might not be worth it.

  • While contacts are versatile, glasses are flexible. If you simply want a break, or to give your eyes a rest during a long night, you can always take glasses off.
  • There’s no risk of irritation. If you worry even a little that contacts could become comfort issues during your wedding, glasses may be the safer bet.

  • The biggest “con” is mobility. When you’re getting married, dancing, walking around saying hi, and up into the early morning hours, you may prefer the easy versatility of contacts.
  • Another “con” is glare. Photography is a major part of any wedding, and your glasses can reflect flash in a way that destroys photos you’ll want to cherish your whole life!

1940s Wedding Theme

From Vintage Clothes and Bingo Games to Big Band Music and Swing Dance

Who says that marriage is only for young people? There has been many seniors citizens who’ve tied the knot during their older years like Paul McCartney who married Nancy Shevell in 2011. Another perfect example of this is Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner who was in his 80s when he got hitched to Crystal Harris. The perfect theme for their wedding was the 1940s so that guests could witness how cool that generation was. This era was often associated with film noir, atomic prints, bingo, Ernest Hemingway, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. If you were born in the 1940s and are planning to get married soon, then continue reading below to get some wedding preparation tips on how you can transport your guests back in time:

Vintage Wedding

Wear Vintage Clothes

It’s not easy finding vintage clothes so make sure to include a list of shops that sells or rents out 1940s clothing items in your invitation. For the ladies, you can suggest balloon dresses, long skirts, petticoats, pearl necklaces, and big bows. For the blokes, you can ask them to wear zoot suits, trench coat, and brimmed hats. You can get inspiration from the fashion icons of the 1940s such as Betty Davis, Rita Hayworth, Cary Grant, and James Stewart.

Bingo Games

This traditional game was popularized by Edwin Lowe, who produced two versions of the Bingo Game in the 1940s. From the time that it was introduced in Great Britain in the 1700s, bingo continues to be the favorite game of many locals. Years ago, people need to go to the bingo hall or church to play this game, but now most of the younger generation can be seen playing at Cheekybingo.com using their laptop or tablet. You can either set up bingo equipment or gadgets at the venue so guests can play bingo in between the programs.

Big Band

Instead of hiring a wedding singer or DJ, you can get a big band to play on your wedding day. Start the real party by playing swing music such as those from Benny Goodman so guests can start showing off their dance moves. For the couple’s slow dance, you can request the singer to sing some of the songs of Frank Sinatra such as “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and “Strangers in the Night”.
