Five things to make on a DIY day with your bridesmaids

Planning a wedding is exciting for many people in your life, especially the members of your bridal party. If you want to make use of their excitement, you can get them involved in a little pre-wedding fun and have a DIY day. There are some great projects that not only make for a fun day with your girls but would also add some lovely personalised touches to your wedding.

Here are five of our favourite DIY projects that you can tackle with your bridesmaids.

Make your champagne flutes stand out

The champagne will be flowing on the morning of the wedding, so why not add some cute bows to your champagne flutes? This is an easy way to ‘girly up’ your glass to fit your gorgeous bridal party. You’ll be sipping in style by simply adding some cute pink bows with a gold thread to the stems of your flutes.

What you need:

  • Pink bows with gold thread
  • Champagne flutes

Personalised robes

A tricky one to try out but, if you’ve got plenty of time, why not challenge yourselves? The robe trend for weddings has caught on, from fabulous silky floral numbers to those fluffy towelling robes. Give yours that personalised touch and get creative with the girls, making your own transfers and sticking them to the back of your bridal party’s robes.

What you need:

  • Robes of your choice
  • A fun fabric to go with your robe
  • Scissors
  • A pen
  • An iron
  • Iron on adhesive

Chair decorations

It could become a tad expensive to decorate each and every chair in your wedding venue, but with DIY decorations you can tailor them to your own style and stay on the cheaper side. Choose from fabric bows, ribbons, lace and clusters of flowers – all of which can easily be made and incorporated into your colour scheme.

If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to real flowers for your chairs, you can make your own using crepe paper in a variety of colours. Create your designs and then try them out on your dining room chairs.

What you need:

  • A chair
  • Ribbon
  • Flowers
  • Crepe paper
  • Lace
  • Fabric bows
  • Glue

Confetti push pops

Who doesn’t love being showered with pink sparkles, glitter and confetti on their wedding day? These confetti push pops will do just the job!

What you need:

  • Scissors
  • Hole puncher
  • Pink paper
  • Gold garland
  • A black thin Sharpie
  • Gold cardstock
  • Clear plastic cake push pop containers
  • Circle crafts punch

To make the confetti, simply punch holes into the pink paper and cut strands of gold garlands to about three inches long. Then, using the large circle craft punch, cut a larger circle on the gold card, take your Sharpie and draw your favourite saying or word.

Then take the gold garland and pink circles, mix them together and stuff them into your plastic containers. Pop the lid on top and make sure it snaps close to secure. Now you have your very own confetti popper.

Floral crowns

Do you need a floral crown for your flower girl or maids? If you are looking for a project to really get stuck into, grab some wire and flowers and start making your very own floral crowns. These are a beautiful added extra for your wedding and will really top it all off.

What you need:

  • Floral wire
  • Tape
  • Wire cutters
  • Flowers
  • Greenery

Cut your wire into a circle shape and rest it upon your head to check sizing. Wrap the wire in some floral tape, and cut the flowers to two to three inches in length. Cover it completely with flowers and greenery until it looks exactly how you want it and then tape it down. Attach the loose ends of your wire together to form your crown.

There you have it – the perfect DIY day for your bridal party. Make it more fun by adding some nibbles and drinks too.
